Sep. 2nd, 2002

What a week, for that matter! As everyone knows, given that I have whined sufficiently, I have been sick as a dog for the last week. Thankfully, most of the respiratory crud is gone, but the stomach crud remains. I've been averaging one very tiny meal a day (a bagel Wednesday, a bagel Thursday, waffle/sausage/egg on Friday! (big meal!), a couple tablespoons of rice yesterday. I'd like to complain more, but dang, I've lost four pounds. This can't be all bad!

Yesterday Dean and I went down to White Marsh to hit Ikea and the mall. Ikea, for the record, on the first weekend of the school year? Nightmare and a half. Still, that is a relative term. Nightmare Ikea is still a pretty nifty trip, and we had a good time. They have a new bookcase that's a couple inches taller than I am, has a pretty birch finish, and most importantly is only $20. Yes, we got one. I also got a grill pan that I've been wanting, and the hooks I needed to finish hanging my shelves. The mall was the source of the glorious lemonade of wonder. I keep saying I'm going to figure out how to make this lemonade, but honestly, how hard can lemon, sugar, and water be?

Today was a day of utter laziness, which was good. I slept late, spent most of the day on Contact and watching a Good Eats marathon. Mmmm. Alton Brown. That is one science geek I so would not kick out. Tonight Dean took me out to dinner, which was very sweet of him, and given that it was nice light food, it was very welcome. It was nice to just sit and talk about life, the universe, and everything with him for a few hours. One of the things I'm grateful for in life is not just that I love my husband, but I also like him. There's a difference, but it's a hard one to explain.

And finally now I'm home, zoning and watching a show on PBS, some African dance and singing troupe of men that are just amazing. One second it's primal rhythms, then next it's complicated a capella harmony. I do love PBS sometimes! Just not during the pledge weeks. There's something fundamentally unfair about it that they show the very best stuff, but interrupt it every ten minutes to spend twenty minutes hounding me for money. Yes, yes, yes. I know, I get it. It's -public- television. It has to be supported that way, and I approve! I'm all for the concept. I just want them to show some of the good stuff during non-pledge drive times too!

As for work, now that I'm feeling better, it's not such a daunting idea. I am looking forward to the new director starting, for lots and lots of reasons. Friday was long and difficult, and after the ex-director came down and worked me right through my lunchtime (not that I'd have eaten, but resting would have been nice), I decided to leave early. This was even more a decision when [livejournal.com profile] moobabe and [livejournal.com profile] toasterwiz asked me to go see Feardotcom with them. Heh. The creators of this movie must have saved a fortune. They forgot lights, they forgot a script, they forgot a plot. About they only thing they didn't forget was actor eye candy, and it was chock full of that. The mass majority of the movie though was one long need to go into full MST3K mode. Still, I can't regret it, as seeing it was just flat out fun, and mocking it afterwards was just as enjoyable. Despite that MooBabe and Toasterwiz are neat people, they are flat out the best people I know for snarking over a movie with. Well, and amazing people in general beside that, but I'm talking movies here.

And now that I have emptied the contents of my brain onto the screen (well, somewhat), I'm going to bed. Goodnight, Net! Goodnight, Ebay! Goodnight, Amazon! Goodnight, moon! Goodnight, room! Goodnight, cel phone charging up!
