What a morning!
Sep. 5th, 2002 09:52 amSome days just start out of the gate full speed ahead! I got up, realized I had to teach tonight, and figured, dang, I'd better actually wear makeup. Okay, so not much, but more than I wore yesterday. More about yesterday in a bit! I stumble out to the car, get in, hop on the freeway for the creep to work. Just getting on the freeway, they announce the Morning Mindbender question on WSTW. What morning show started on this date in 1988? Hey, this was prime morning TV watching time for me! I was a senior in high school. So I call in, fully expecting a busy signal. Talk about shock when it not only rang, but was answered, and I realized I was talking to the DJs! I gave the answer of Regis and Kathie Lee, which was right! Holy crap! I got it right! Not that I wasn't pretty sure, I mean we scheduled our classes in college around Regis and Kathie Lee. Still! I -won-! And I was on the radio! I wanted to call up everyone I know, but the problem is that calling people at 7:50 AM is generally considered cruel and unusual punishment in most countries, I'm pretty sure. Anyway, it was an exciting way to start the day. Oh, and I won a $20 gift certificate to Happy Harry's. Useful!
Of course, as soon as I got to work, I got slammed with folks wanting stuff, since I'd not been here yesterday. No, I wasn't entirely just skipping out yesterday, only a tiny bit. Dean had a CT scan yesterday morning, and those always leave him kind of headachey and not happy, so I prefer to be with him. He is, for the record, just fine to our knowledge; this is just a checkup to make sure the slightly enlarged lymph node in his abdomen hasn't grown. It hadn't over the last couple scans, so no one's expecting it to have this time. He gets bloodwork done in a week or so to make sure his tumor markers are still at normal levels too, again something we fully expect to be the case. I can't begin to say how glad I am about this. Dean has said he's not sure he could go through chemo again if he relapses, and that's an idea that just kind of shoots through me hard. Anyway, I try not to think about it, since the odd of it happening drop with every month that passes, and now that he's nearly at the one year mark in remission, it drops to a less than 3% chance of relapse. Basically, at this point, he'd just have to get cancer all over again from scratch, completely unrelated to the first time. Here's to beating the odds!
-Anyway-, what I was going to say before I got off on a tangent was that yesterday was a good day! We got the CT scan out of the way, but by then it was really too late for either of us to go in to work. We paid rent, then headed up to Claymont and each of us got haircuts. Then we bopped on over to the mall to eat at Chick Fil-A, and I convinced him I needed a small plush cow bearing a sign that says 'Eat Chikin, Cuddle Cowz'. Doesn't everyone need one of these? I think they do! After that, we wandered over to Barned and Noble, then Best Buy attempting to find a birthday present for Nephew #2. No go, but we'll keep looking! After that, it was nasty hot out, and we decided to head for home. Dean crashed out for a while, and I logged on to write. There is nothing quite like the agony of banging one's head against a wall attempting to write when it just isn't coming together. I was about to toss it out the window (the window! the window!), then inspiration sleeted down from the sky and hit me like a ton of bricks! Gotta love inspiration hitting me, and not random turtles in Mongolia!
The day rounded out with two whole hours of American Idol! Dean kept wandering in to find out why I was laughing so much, but the outtakes! Oh, my god, the outtakes! Have mercy! Some people have a lot more balls than talent, is all I can say. Mm-hmm. Tah-mee-kah! But Kelly won, and life is good! Granted, I'd not have been upset if Justin had won. Those curls. Oh, lordy, the curls. Even Ethan commented on the curls! Yay Ethan! Still, Kelly has a voice that's just incredible. I think my favorite was some of the duets though, particularly the Kelly/Justin duet, and the ones with Justin and Tamyra, and Kelly and the British guy. Yay Kelly!
And to top the day off, decisions were made for
toasterwiz's birthday. There is just something far too ironic and fun about spending her birthday at a Moroccan restaurant. We get to eat with our fingers! Now if we can just refrain from a foodfight... I mean, of course we will. We're all grownups, right? Right? Why am I hearing laughter?
