Nope, I didn't write a thing for two weeks. Know what? I didn't really do a damn thing for two weeks. I should probably feel this incredible sense of guilt about all the things I'd planned to do and didn't. I planned to clean the daylights out of my apartment. I, uh...managed to do all the laundry (bedding too!), make sure the trash was taken out, and the cats had clean litter. Aside from that? Nope, nada. I planned to run a lot more errands than I did. I did run some, and I got some necessary shopping done. Thank goodness for that at least. But a great and vast majority of my break was spent sleeping late because flannel sheets and two cats make for a very warm and cozy environment. I also started crocheting a baby blanket for friends that are due in May. I got some stuff done on my end of The Project, and enjoyed the results thoroughly.

And I played Civilization III. Like Pitr, I now know how to take over the world.

I mean, I played a lot of Civ III. Many hours worth. I remember being addicted to Civ I in college, and I saw Civ II at Best Buy and picked it up for $10. Within a few days, I had plunked down the change for Civ III, and it was a lovely investment. Okay, maybe not so lovely, as Dean swears he's a Civ III widower. Of course, now he knows how I feel during baseball season. ;)

Better than Civ III was some of the offline, out of the house activities. Christmas Eve was spent over at [livejournal.com profile] toasterwiz's place with she and her husband and [livejournal.com profile] moobabe and her husband. Toasterwiz's husband made this huge dinner of steak and baked potatoes and salad, etc, ate by candlelight while listening to Christmas music. It's a tradition for their family, and as far as I'm concerned, that's one seriously good tradition. Even better, it snowed on Christmas Eve, so everything was very pretty, and very appropriate. After dinner, we played Taboo, and the women whooped up on the men. Of course, MUSHing helps. There's nothing quite like being able to hear, "L'mir built one of these!" and be able to answer 'Gazebo!" and know it's right. All in all, it was a really wonderful night, and a great idea.

Christmas Day was back at Toasterwiz's, although we missed Moobabe and Mooman who were off visiting the family. It entailed football, beef stew, and black sausage. No, not a sausage that was supposed to be black, sadly. I was supposed to make sausage balls, and just grabbed a pound of sausage from my fridge. I, uh, didn't think about how long it had been there, and when I opened it? Sausauge should so not be that color, or smell like that. Toasterwiz of course asked me what was wrong, so I, like an idiot, held out the sausage and said, "Smell this." I think she may never forgive me. ;) Since I'd already grated a ton of cheese, we made cheese straws instead, which mainly entails making a large mess, but was great fun.

New Year's Eve was spent over at Moobabe's place, with massive amounts of munchies and a bundt cake that was out of this -world-. Dah-rool. At midnight we cheered the new year in and drank sparkling cider, then all went home because I'm old, and get tired early nowadays. Pretty soon I'll be doing the early-bird special at Denney's and hitting bed at 7pm. ;)

I mainly got money and gift certificates for Christmas, both excessively useful since I needed a new PDA. I got a Palm Pilot m515, and I love it very, very much. I love it so much, in fact, I got an anodized aluminum carrying case for it. Those of you that know me know exactly why such a sturdy case is necessary. o O (How did that crack get in my screen! NooOOOOooo!) I also got myself a copy of Scooby Doo on DVD, that I may inflict it on anyone who will let me. The cartoon was nice when I was a kid, and doesn't do great things for me now, but the movie? The movie -rocks-. It's stupid and brainless, and just a general good time. I fell in love with Matthew Lillard because of it, and how can you beat having Buffy as Daphne?

Other things I did during the break: I spent a lot of time with Dean, which is always good. I watched enough Buffy the Vampire Slayer, Trading Spaces, While You Were Out, and Iron Chef to kill my brain. I didn't watch nearly enough Good Eats. I really need a good Alton fix. Okay, it looks like I watched a lot of TV. Actually, what's likely more accurate is the TV was on while I did other stuff. I like the background noise. But there's never enough Alton, of course.

We also went to see Miss Saigon in Baltimore on the 2nd, which was beyond amazing. We had amazing seats in the center of the front row of the balcony. I hadn't listened to the music very much in advance so I wouldn't be biased against the show we were seeing, but now I wish I had. The music is pretty complex, and sometimes it's hard to tell who is saying what. Didn't matter, though. It was beautiful, and the music was glorious. The part that hit me the hardest was the a capella men's chorus at the start of Act II. Recorded choral music has nothing on live choral music. There's none of the impact and sheer vitality that's so apparent live. Of course, I spent the first half hour after seeing the show wondering if I had any siblings in Viet Nam, but that's a very minor drawback to a wonderful day and a wonderful show. Of course, we took the scenic tour of southern Baltimore when I got us terribly lost, but it was still worth every minute of being lost. Get a chance to go see Miss Saigon? Go. And take kleenex.

Which brings me up to yesterday, the last and final day of my beautiful two weeks of laziness. I woke up to see it was gray and nasty. Ick. Then it started to snow. Yay! It started as little tiny flakes that wouldn't stick to the ground, but before long it was the massive drifting flakes that build up, and build up it did! It snowed heavily for a couple hours, enough to dump a few inches, but then sometime in the evening it stopped snowing, much to my horror. I was so hoping for a good foot of city-stopping, school-closing snow to add another day of vacation. But no, Mother Nature is a tease and should be bitch-slapped for just snowing enough to screw up the roads and make getting to work nasty. Still, it could be worse. I get to go home in about an hour and a half, which is a goodness, because then I will be able to enjoy again what I realized I loved the most about being at home. The phone -not- ringing every five minutes.

Happy New Year, everyone!
