Life, the universe, and everything!
Jun. 19th, 2003 11:19 amI love the end of the fiscal year. I do. Really. See the waves of joy coming off of me? Woo, joy waves! Only not. End of the fiscal year for us is a pretty crazy time of data gathering and budget preparation. I don't mind doing this, except the new boss (who I will shortly sing her praises) keeps expecting me to be doing more of it and knowing how, when I've never touched this stuff before. The old boss took care of the budget. Now I'm having to compile numbers that I have no clue where to get the info. Rent? Rent? We're a state institution! We don't pay rent! Well, not out of our center budget, at least. I'm not sure how a state junior college handles things like rent. Do they own the buildings? Do we rent from DuPont? Who knows? Anyway, I'm trying not to stress over it. Goodness knows there's enough other stress. We've got to get ready for our trip home in a week, and I can assure that I'm not really looking forward to it. Here's the itinerary:
Friday, 6/27: Drive to Baltimore, stay the evening there. (Looking forward to this. Should be pleasant and relaxing.)
Saturday: Fly to Texas. We have to change planes twice. If no one hears from us, assume we've been tossed in jail because of my crochet hooks.
Saturday-Monday: Visit with friends who have new baby for which we're godparents. Stay with Dean's parents. If no one hears from us, assume my mother-in-law has talked at us until we're deaf. (Note: I -adore- my MIL. She does not, however, understand the concept of an introvert. Odd, since Dean is one too, and his brother's picture is next to 'introvert' in the dictionary.)
Tuesday: Drive to Austin. Check the city out, stay with and visit my parents. (Jury's still out here - pondering a hotel. Depends on Dean's asthma.)
Wednesday: Still in Austin. If no one hears from us, assume we're playing with my mom's dogs and have been licked to death.
Thursday: Drive back to Lubbock. Mourn leaving Austin. Austin rocks.
Thursday-Sunday: STAY IN HOTEL! Dean's family is lovely. I have the best inlaws ever. But...his parents would like everyone to stay at their house. For the holiday, this would include: Dad-in-law, mom-in-law, Dean's sister, her husband and son, Dean's brother, his wife and three sons, and Dean and me. This is in a three bedroom, one bathroom house about the size of a crackerbox? Um, thank you, but no thank you. So a hotel, it is, even if my MIL doesn't understand, bless her.
Sunday, 7/6: Fly back to Baltimore, drive back to Delaware. Collapse and die.
Monday: Back at work. Like I'm going to have a brain to work with?
So anyway, we'll be incommunicado during that time. I'll prolly have some net access from the mother-in-law's house as well as my parent's house later in the evenings, but that's about it.
This week I'm battling the weather, which for some reason is playing havoc with my joints and tendonitis. I'm about living on Celebrex, which helps immensely with my hands, but not so much for the lower back, which is kind of feeling like I've been whacked in the kidneys a few times. I know part of the problem is I'm not drinking enough (I try to go for 2 qts. a day, but am forgetting. Bad me!) Anyway, enough health gripes. Happy things! Harry Potter comes out this weekend! Woohoo! I tried to hit Borders yesterday to pre-reserve a copy, but they wouldn't let me. Mean old evil people! Sniff!
But the -best- part of this week? I have tomorrow off! Doing the happy dance! Oh yeah! Woohoo! TGITh!
