In my head, at least! Thank goodness for ibuprofen. And Nyquil. And Benedryl. And prescription cough syrup. Yup, I too, have the plague that is making the rounds. Dean may forever find vindication in the fact that, despite the lovely flu shot in October, I have indeed come down with a case of the flu. The fever is mostly gone, although it pops up at times, but the body aches and annoying cough seem here to stay. The doctor had me out of work Tuesday and today, and what did I do? Slept. A lot. And got my ass kicked by my computerized opponents at Civ III. (No brainpower means an utter inability to run a country. And I'll be good and not make the obvious joke here.)

On the good side, I found out happy news at the doctor's office on Monday when I went (along with a million other sick people) to check in. My blood pressure had been up to like 150/95 in early December from stress and just generally being, ah, Reubenesque in the extreme. Still, I've been working out regularly since mid-November, really going for the whole 3 times a week deal, 35-45 minutes at a stretch usually. Over Christmas, I even picked up a new workout DVD, the Dolphina Goddess Intro to Bellydance workout. Oh. My. God. I didn't know I -had- some of those muscles! So I lock myself in a room where no one can see to do this workout, and feel about a zillion times better afterward, not just from the workout, but also from laughing like a hyena at some of the things my body tries to do as opposed to the lady on the DVD. Do a figure-8 with my hips while shimmying them really fast? Hee! Heehehhehhhee! -Right-. Anyhow, the upswing of all this is I've lost 6 pounds so far and my blood pressure is down to 120/80. I don't have any specific goals aside from doing good for my heart though. Call it a my New Year's Non-Resolution!

Having two weeks off for the break was beyond wonderful, to say the least. I spent a lot of time trying to get my head back together and do a lot of resting. This worked great up until last Friday when I had Chinese food for lunch, and the chicken and eggplant I ordered had to have been steeped in pure soy or something. I literally only ate half of it before my lungs decided that was enough of -that-. The doctor is kinda worried my soy allergy is getting worse, and now I have to carry an inhaler around in addition to the glorious little Epi-pen, for times when I don't stop breathing completely. (Uh, which is every time I've had problems, so far. Thankfully, I've never had to use said Epi-pen.) Anyhow, this was honestly the worst attack I've had in easily ten years, so it's time for me to get a little more careful about watching what I eat. Heck though, I'm edging into my mid-thirties, and if I want to age half as gracefully as my mother, I need to start watching a lot of things.

On the family front, everyone is doing fine. Dean's recovering, my parents seem cheerful, my brother is being all soldiery, and my cats are being obnoxious. Life as usual. I've got my space heater, I don't need to do any laundry, and dinner isn't an issue with neither of us eating a whole lot while ill. Angel, while a rerun, is a -good- rerun, and so I will be watching that tonight. And that's my life in a nutshell right now. La-dee-da-dee-dee. La-dee-da-dee-da.
