I didn't bring my gym bag to work today, because the four of us in the front office (boss, me, accountant, secretary) were going to go out to lunch. This was going to be a surprise to the secretary, whose birthday we were going to celebrate, although she didn't know this. The boss was just going to casually suggest she come pick the three of us after her meeting at the Stanton campus and take us all to the riverfront for lunch. No such luck. The secretary evidently resisted in a major way, and wham, there goes lunch plans. She's done this before too. Carol (boss-lady) will suggest the four of us going, and she vehemently opposes, but does that lovely passive-resistive long-suffering sigh and "But you guys go ahead." Right. Yeah. Now that we're all feeling guilty. We did go out to lunch just before Christmas without her, and I'm pretty sure it hacked her off, even though she was invited. It's not the money, but I don't know why she's this way. Granted, she goes out to lunch with the accountant frequently, and has no problems if it's just the boss and the accountant. I think I'm the fly in her ointment, although for the life of me, I have no idea why. She's been distinctly cold to me since I started, and I've always been exceedingly nice to her. She was on my original interview committee even. Ah, well, life's mysteries. I can't control if someone dislikes me, even when I make a point of niceness.

But then my mother sends me happy stuff to brighten up the rainy and confusing day!

Why not to argue with children. )
