Remember the Alamo!
Oct. 2nd, 2004 12:12 pmThe Alamo Drafthouse and Cinema, that is. Dean and I have been madly trying to settle into Austin life, which has included mass chaos and problems in getting our vehicles inspected, registered, and getting our drivers licenses. According to Dean's temporary license, he lives in Loop, Texas. Whoops. Typo. ;) Add to this that I promptly came down with a mix of insane allergies and a sneezing cold, and I have not been online, I have not been anything but sleeping when we're not running about, or mindlessly making my Sims do bizarre things. I'm trying to make one get abducted by aliens right now. ;)
Anyway, back to the Alamo! We wanted to go on a date last night, just to get out and have fun and not worry about errands. We went to the Alamo Drafthouse and Cinema. Think of a normal movie theater. Now rip out every other row of seats and replace it with long narrow tables. There's a full menu, including beer, wine, handmade pizzas, burgers, etc. You show up a little early, watch the pre-movie entertainment, and waiters and waitresses come take your order and bring you food to munch on while you watch the movie! We had jalapeno poppers, and I had an artichoke/spinach pizza and Dean had a pineapple/Canadian bacon pizza, and it was all darned good! Oh, and the movie? Hero! Jet Li! The best word I can use to describe this movie is interesting. The use of color is positively stunning in the movie, and it has some neat plot twists. Plus it's historical, and I like historical movies, whether they're factual or not. Can't -wait- for Alexander to come out. ;) Anyway, all in all, the Alamo gets two thumbs up for comfort and good food, and for weird pre-movie stuff. We got there about 45 minutes early, and got to watch a plethora of Asian movie trailers, mainly Hong Kong and Japanese films, and not all current. Most were subtitled, but in Korean or Chinese more often than English. Then we were treated to two full episodes of Transformers in the original Japanese. I thought of you guys,
tajnyj and
mattcwood. ;) Then came the real previews! I don't remember the authentic ones, but they were normal movie previews. Of course, inserted in the midst of these was a full preview for the original Highlander movie, clearly one of the old trailers, and not formatted for the big wide screens we have now. Nothing like seeing Connor stab himself, and wanting to yell, "Yes! Killing yourself is hot and sexy! Now she must bonk you!" I didn't. But I wanted to. And they didn't show enough of the Kurgan. ;)
As for all the NaNoWriMo goodness, I'm still planning to attempt it this year, just to see what happens. ;)
And I'll post about the drive down here later, as I kept a running record of all the Lisa Moments. There were a -lot-. Sample: In Illinois, we picked up a map. On the back of the map, it indicates that all drivers must be covered by Liability Insurance. I think, "-Damn-. Everyone has to be covered by the same company called Liability? *pause* Doh!"
