Apr. 2nd, 2006

Tomorrow is officially my birthday, but as I will be at work/at dress rehearsal/going insane the vast majority of the day, my family celebrated it this weekend. Last night we hit Outback with the Ws, and I love them for that! They got me GCs to Lowe's and World Market, and we nattered about Dr. Who and theater and baseball and god know's what else. It was wonderfully relaxing and peaceful, and a fabulous Saturday night. :)

Today I went to a Youth Guild meeting for the theater, then got home in time for the rest of the family to go to a new restaurant. Oh. My. God. If you live in the Austin area, I encourage everyone everyone everyone to try this place, Selene's. The owner takes dog agility classes with my mother, and clearly has -fun- with his restaurant. He changes the menu regularly to keep up with what's fresh and in season, and it was all amazingly delicious. It's fancy food with a distinctly laid-back feel. Show up in shorts and flip-flops? Great! Wanna sit out on the patio? Bring your dog! And then have the Insane Potatoes, flash fried baby potatoes tossed in kosher salt and served with saffron aioli (garlic mayonnaise). The waiter asked if he could pick out wine for us since it was my birthday. I told him to go for it, but made sure he knew I despise cabernets. He brings out this Spanish wine called temperanillo, a dark red that's still fruity and smooth, and best of all? From La Mancha! Hee! I had the crawfish alfredo, very peppery and fun. The chef really liked using pepper, but not in overkill, in my opinion. The waiter also offered to choose my salad dressing, which turned out to be an amazing handmade raspberry vinaigrette, plus fresh blue cheese crumbled over the greens. Heaven! Now for the best part...six adults had an appetizer, meals, -and- a full bottle of wine for about $100. Everything was priced in the $8-$15 range mostly, which is insanely cheap for this kind of food. Folks, go to Selene's. Your mouth and wallet will sing your praises. Seriously.

And I got Sims 2 and Zoo Tycoon for Nintendo DS, a new ionic hairdryer, an electric can opener for school, a mini Zen rock garden, a tie dye "Keep Austin Weird" shirt, and a gorgeous brown blouse. I am just that damned lucky. :)

Of course, after three glasses of wine, I am also that damned sleepy. Nighty night!
