Squeeeee! Thud.
Jun. 2nd, 2006 12:18 amI have never before this show worked back stage on anything. Ever.
So, I really didn't have any point of view of the techs or directors or anyone like that. And heck, I've done few enough shows, I barely have the point of view of the actor. So when directors have said a show is like giving birth, I only vaguely knew what they meant. Now, I think I might have a little insight.
To say this week has been hell week would be an understatement of the extreme order. Like saying the Atlantic Ocean is a puddle. Or Dick Cheney is the antichrist. Anyway. It's been a rough week. Many tech changes, many music changes, just lots of changes in general rocked our world. Then last night poor
roundrock_rules got klonked on the head badly enough that I took her to the ER, poor lady. She's better, but everyone still owes her hugs. Gently. Watch out for her shoulder. The director and I have been running around like chickens with our heads cut off, trying to get everyone ready for the big night.
That was sorta tonight. Tomorrow is the official opening, but tonight was our preview. This is the last night the director/music director/choreographer get to sit in the audience, take notes, and yammer corrections at folks after the show. On the other hand, we had a real audience too. Folks get in free in the preview show, and holy crap did they! We had people crammed in the aisles.
And you know what? Aside from a few glitches, the show went of beautifully. All the pain, all the desperation, all the talk of which theatre god we possibly offended and should we be burning spirit gum as an offering of appeasement...gone. Gone in this amazing creation of light and humor and glorious costumes and happy kids. Euphoria. :)
