Race for the Cure!
Nov. 7th, 2004 05:04 pmNo, not the band. ;)
This morning we got up well before dawn to get ready, snarfed down a small breakfast, and hit the road for downtown Austin to take part in the Komen Austin Race for the Cure. This was a little 5K walk from the river up around the capitol and back down through the warehouse district. The weather was gloriously sunny, clear, dry, and breezy, in the mid-70s. There were about 19,000 people there, and everyone was smiling and laughing and cheering each other on, including the police. It was just so incredibly cool to pass by the police, all intimidating and dour at other security-needing events, being all cheerful and cracking jokes with people! Frankly, it could not have been a better day! All that sunshine and multiple thousands of people worth of good energy? Talk about a buzz! We ended up meandering along towards the back half of the walking pack (the vast majority, although there were honest to goodness timed runners too). It took us a bit over an hour to finish given the crowd and general moseying, but it felt just so incredibly good! Afterwards, we wandered the booths set up all over, then hit the shuttle back to the parking garage.
In the parking garage, Dean earned about a gazillion husband points. He noticed Mom's back tire was half-flat, had a nail, and then proceded to change said tire. He is my hero! We hit IHOP for lunch (cheese blintzes-mmmm), then headed home for a 3 hour nap. *happy sigh* Now -this- is the kind of day I like!
Oh, and this is after seeing Team America, last night. So many levels of beautiful, glorious wrongness! Art! Art!
