Blessings in all shapes and sizes
Nov. 22nd, 2006 11:10 pmSo I'm finally starting to recover from what was clearly the flu superimposed on a sinus infection. Lesson learned. I will never again fib and say I am well in order to get a flu shot when I should not. Oof. I still get tired easy, but today was good. It had to be, because yesterday was pretty awful. One of our dogs, Bella, was an elderly German Shepherd who'd lived a hard life at times despite being spoiled rotten by my family, had passed away. She'd survived living in a kennel the first year of her life (not with my family), snakebite, and several small strokes. She was nine years old and well loved, but over the last few days, it was clear she'd decided it was time to go. Dean went out motorcycle riding yesterday, and she was gone by the time he got home. Evidently she just went to sleep and never woke up, very peacefully. She was old and hurting, and while we cried a lot last night, today there is peace. She's not in pain anymore, and I can indulge in my own little belief that she went and found Dad. So, sadness, but still a blessing.
Today Dean and I hit the new Ikea, and I scored a new little lamp for my classroom and some paperwork-holders, as well as a toy for the nephewling. After lunch, we hit the Toyota dealership so I could take a peek at the Scion Xa, which it looks as though we might be ordering one on Saturday and finally trading in my lemon of a Saturn. Then it was off to the outlet mall. We meant to get Dean new Timberlands, but ended up getting me Converse off the 'cheap rack' again. Leather Converse, $20. Love. :) By then, I was so tired I couldn't think. Dean brought me home and I think I made it to the bed. That's where I woke up at least. This evening we hit the Alamo Drafthouse for a Schoolhouse Rock sing-a-long. It's official. I know way too many Schoolhouse Rock songs. And can sing the harmony lines to them. But hey, I know the Preamble to the Constitution! Then it was to the grocery store, where Dean did decide I was not awake enough to make three pies from scratch. We did buy the glory of Mrs. Smith's for two of them, and the third I'll still make, but it's a no-bake jobbie. Much goodness.
And now? Sleep. Tomorrow we have family coming. My grandfather's sister and her husband are pretty much my favorite aunt and uncle. Their youngest son and his family are stationed about an hour north of us, so we invited them for the holiday. Never met them, but hey! Family!
Happy Turkey Day, all. Count your blessings. There are many. :)
