What a day!

Today was a long, busy day that was pretty much non-stop hilarity at some points. The cats woke me up first of all at 6:30am. And at 7:30am. And at 8:30am. And at 9:30am. That's when I got up, finally giving up on more sleep. I got a shower, then headed off to start errands with a trip to Happy Harry's and the bank. I also went Halloween costume hunting at this point. Yes, yes, I know, I'm late! But the party was tonight. More on that in a minute. Anyhow. I hit the Halloween store, and lo, everything is 50-75% off! Can't beat that! So for less than $20, I was able to get furry ears, furry tail, multiple shades of colored hair spray, grease sticks, fake white glow-in-the-dark fingernails, black tights, and makeup sponges. I would have gotten makeup, but all hail [livejournal.com profile] toasterwiz who was kind enough to offer her services as a makeup artist. I headed over to her place to pick her up, then we headed over to [livejournal.com profile] moobabe's place. Start comedy here. First we sprayed my hair black. There's a problem. I have a lot of hair. It's well down my back, and while each strand of hair is very fine, I have a massive amount of it. And it's all stick straight. The point is, we ran out of hairspray coloring long before my hair ran out. I ended up with mostly black hair with lots of remaining red streaks. I added some silver spray and finally white at the end, though, and the final effect was rather nifty. Then it was makeup time. I have to give Toasterwiz credit! She did a flat out amazing job! I was so, so impressed! She used a lot of clown white and black greasepaint, and after lots of high comedy and trying not to laugh and inhaling baby powder, I ended up a gray and white cat face. Moobabe was kind enough to chronicle the entire process on digital camera, and I love her for it! Yes, the pictures are going to make me look like an utter doof, but sometimes, some things are just so entertaining, I just can feel no shame in being an utter doof. This is one of those times. The highest comedy came when we realized I would be wearing a somewhat low-cut dress (not as low-cut as I thought, it turned out), and would need makeup on my neck and chest. All of my chest. Waaaay down. Nothing indecent, but just shy of it. So here I am in Moobabe's dining room, shirt half-unbuttoned and off the shoulders, with Toasterwiz cheerfully decorating me with greasepaint and Moobabe snapping pictures. Well, if nothing else, my tracts of land looked fabulous! ;)

Makeup done, I took Toasterwiz home, then headed home myself to finish getting ready. I curled my hair then in sorta long, loose ringlets, then put on my cat ears. I made the mistake of doing up my hands in white before I put on my tights and dress, but the white easily came off the tights where it smeared. Sadly, the dress was not -quite- as low cut as I thought I remembered it being, and the full effect of my décolletage was somewhat covered. *sniff*The fingernails were last, thank goodness. I have no clue how people function with long fingernails. I couldn't even open doors for myself. Dean pinned on my tail, which I think he enjoyed far too much, and we were off! I'm glad I kept my dance MaryJane's from ages ago. They were perfect, and a heck of a lot more comfy than high heels. And so it was off to the party! Let's just say...loud rap music. Lots of it. Now, aside from that travesty, the food was amazing, the people were nice, my coworkers had some great costumes, and my makeup job got tons of compliments. The usual reaction was...*pause* -Lisa?!- Is that -you-?! It was just far too fun! Anyhow, we finally left about midnight, not really staying but about 3 hours. It was a lovely party, but I'm old and antisocial, and I knew it would take a long time to remove makeup.

Guess what? It did. It took an hour and a half to go from cat back to human, and involved lots of Noxzema, wet wipes, and washing my hair three times. But it all came off! I almost felt like I was destroying a work of art, honestly. It was -sad-. I wanted to preserve it somehow. I did get lots of pictures of the final product though, of the makeup, ears, dress, hair and all complete. There's even a couple pics of Dean and I together, who was just wearing jeans and a hockey shirt. I'll at least try to put up a pic of the final effect, just for giggles.

Now it's insanely late, but the makeup is off, the hair is red again, and pajamas have been attained. There are flannel sheets calling my name, and I'm planning on ignoring the cats in the morning, rather than waking up to cuddle them.
