Nice people
Aug. 4th, 2003 02:12 pmWe all know mean people suck. It's on a bumper sticker, so it must be true! I've had my share of them today. The state benefits officer lady doesn't seem especially sympathetic, even with the information I've sent her. I may not get that letter, but I'm trying to stay sane about it. Must. Not. Get. Hopes. Up.
But nice people! -Nice- people rock! Sometimes I just gotta sit back and think about all the nice people in my life! First off is Dean. Shh. He -can- be nice, trust me, even if he doesn't quite qualify as a 'nice' person. He never once asked me about dinner yesterday when I wasn't feeling well, and kept coming in to check on me and give me hugs. Sorry, honey, I know, I shouldn't have snitched. Then there's all my friends up here, primarily the Toasterfamily and the Moofamily. You guys are wonderful people, and that's an understatement in the extreme. My parents aren't up here, but they're about the best parents ever! I know I can always call home, even when I'm incoherent.
What I really love, though, is random niceness. The secretary from the English department at the Stanton campus called me just now, just to check on me. She just wanted to make sure I was okay, and did I need anything for planning my class. Granted, I guess this could be construed as checking up on me to make sure I'm getting prepared, but the way she presented it, it was really clear she cared about how I felt about it too. We chatted about vacations and her son and other random stuff, and it was just really nice. It's that kind of thing that really makes the world a little brighter. Thank you, English department secretary. A little kindness goes a really long way. :)
-And- Staples just sent me not only their new business catalog, but also a free pen that's -very- nice.
